
Internship oppurtunties
My Heroes Therapy is an equine assisted services program that operates
out of CSU's Temple Grandin Equine Center. We serve the special needs
community of Northern Colorado by providing physical and occupational
therapy services, as well as adaptive horsemanship and therapeutic riding
lessons. Being based out of a university setting offers many opportunities
including an academic curriculum which places focus on the research
aspects of Physical and Occupational Therapy using equine interventions,
as well as providing learning opportunities for future therapists and students
wanting to become more involved in this exciting and rewarding field. Our
internship also provides shadowing hours for students interested in
applying to OT/PT schools.


Duties and Requirements
Duties:
Assisting therapists and instructors in sessions
Preparing and handling horses for therapy sessions
Setting up the clinic room and arena prior to sessions
Researching different disabilities and diagnoses
Maintaining the cleanliness of our facility
Preparing an OT/PT lesson plan to be implemented at the end
of the semester
Helping with scheduled events during the semester

Requirements:
Must work well with others
Motivated, outgoing, and willing to take initiative
Good communication skills, and ability to ask questions or have
things clarified
Willingness to work with horses, or have prior experience with
horses
Physical Requirements:
Able to walk in a sandy arena for multiple hours
Able to lift up to 30lbs (assisting clients, setting up
swings/bolsters, lifting tack onto horses, etc)
This is an in-person position; students are expected to be on-site
for the majority of their internship hours.

4 credits = 180 hours (12 hours/week for spring/fall; 15 hours/week for
summer)
5 credits = 225 hours (15 hours/week for spring/fall; 18.75 hours/week for
